When asked about Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell played coy.

The Anyone But You costars sparked romance rumors following Sweeney’s appearance at Powell’s sister’s wedding shortly after her split from fiancé Jonathan Davino. During Powell’s appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends on Wednesday, April 2, the Top Gun: Maverick star addressed their reunion.

Powell, 36, confirmed that Sweeney, 27, attended the “fun, rowdy” wedding of his younger sister, Leslie, in his native Texas over the weekend.

While sitting next to guest co-host Olivia Munn, host Jenna Bush Hager teased the actor about his recent dating speculation headlines, saying, “The wedding caused a little bit of a stir. Did that surprise you?”

“You know, timing is everything in this world,” Powell said while laughing. “[Leslie] and Syd are obviously great friends and it was a hell of a wedding.”

The Twisters star said that he was a groomsman and was also “like the master of ceremonies.” He gave a speech at the wedding and spent time with both his sister and brother-in-law, the latter of whom he described as “the best guy.”

“You know, the Powells know how to do it right, and so all the people that love her were there,” Powell said of wedding guests, adding, “The Powells know how to crank it up!”

After Powell and Sweeney were spotted together at Dallas restaurant Joe Leo Fine Tex Mex and then at Leslie’s wedding, people questioned whether or not they attended the nuptials as a couple.

Powell’s mom, Cyndy, quickly denied the pair were more than friends, telling the Daily Mail on Tuesday, April 1, that any romance rumors were “silly” because “they’re definitely not together.”

“[There is] nothing going on behind closed doors,” Cyndy said.

“We love Sydney. We’ve considered her just a really, really good friend,” she continued to the outlet. “We all were together so much, and we haven’t seen her in a long time. She’s really a friend and we all enjoy her.”

Fans have been rooting for Powell and Sweeney to get together since they starred in the 2023 rom-com Anyone But You. However, the pair have repeatedly clarified that they are just good friends.

“I mean, we sold a rom-com,” Sweeney told PEOPLE in December 2023, admitting that she and Powell played up their flirty friendship to promote the film. “We were just filming a fun, amazing movie.”

PEOPLE confirmed that Sweeney called off her wedding to Davino, 41, with a source telling PEOPLE on March 31 that the actress has been focusing on work amid the end of her engagement.

“She’s exactly where she wants to be. Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects,” the source said.

“What did make her overwhelmed though was her relationship and her wedding,” the source continued. “She didn’t feel right about it.”
