Floribama Shore alum Kirk Medas died after being hospitalized for “severe necrotizing pancreatitis” last month, PEOPLE confirms. He was just 33.
Medas’ father told TMZ that doctors said Medas died of liver failure.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Kirk Medas, a beloved member of the Floribama Shore family. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time,” an MTV spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE on Friday, May 2.
Hall shared Medas’ health battle with fans on Thursday, May 1. On Instagram, she shared that Medas had been in the hospital for two weeks, was “sedated” after being admitted, was diagnosed with severe necrotizing pancreatitis and was on a ventilator.
Nilsa Prowant also shared prayers and support with fans. Hall and Prowant shared a link to the Medas family’s GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $27,000 to date. The name of the fundraiser was recently changed to “Support Kirk Medas: Funeral & Medical Arrangements.”
“Donations will help with medical bills and rehabilitation. He did not have health insurance, so your donations are greatly appreciated,” the GoFundMe description reads. “Please continue to pray for Kirk. The Medas family thanks you again.”
“Necrotizing pancreatitis occurs when inflammation of the pancreas becomes so severe that it causes tissue death (necrosis),” according to the Cleveland Clinic. “This can cause both short-term and long-term complications.”
Medas appeared on the MTV show for 25 episodes from 2017 to 2020.

In a since-deleted Facebook post, Hall wrote on Friday, “We have lost our brother, our best friend, our heart—Kirk.”
“I was at the beach when I felt it. Before the call, a dolphin kept coming toward me, as if to say goodbye. Kirk and I share a love for dolphins and the ocean, and in that moment, I just knew,” she continued.
“While my heart is broken, I find peace in knowing that he is no longer in pain. He is now in heaven—free, whole, and making people laugh in a way that only he could. Kirk had a kind soul, a heart full of love for everyone he met, and a spirit that brought people together. He was truly the glue that held us all together.”
“I will never forget the moment they put him on the ventilator, before he went into a coma. I told him I loved him, and tears rolled down his eyes. That memory will stay with me forever,” she wrote. “I missed his voice, his laughter his presence. The world is a little darker without him—but I know that one day I will see my best friend again. Until then, I will carry him in my heart. Always.”
